ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

An assistant stage manager (ASM) supports the Stage Manager by running the backstage and helping the production run smoothly from rehearsals through performances. They take detailed rehearsal notes and update the prompt book, set up and maintain props and backstage areas, and organise rehearsals or track rehearsed blocking when the stage manager is occupied. During tech and performances they manage backstage operations, communicate with the booth and crew via headset, execute cue-related tasks, and assist with quick changes and actor needs. ASMs help with practical duties like setting up rehearsal spaces, labelling and maintaining props/costumes, running errands, and preparing backups. They troubleshoot on the fly, provide continuity between rehearsals and performances, and act as the stage manager’s eyes and hands backstage, stepping in to cover stage management tasks when required. This is a volunteer role. Email hanna@swampratexperience.com if interested.

ABOUT THE SHOW

A sparkling turn-of-the-century comedy of manners by David Mamet, Boston Marriage follows Anna and Claire, two sharp-tongued “women of fashion” whose secret domestic partnership defies social convention.

When Anna accepts a dazzling emerald necklace from a wealthy patron, her newfound independence threatens Claire’s quiet control. Sparks fly further when Claire’s infatuation with a younger woman entangles them both in a web of jealousy, secrecy, and scandal.

Mamet’s first play written exclusively for women shatters period norms with razor-sharp dialogue and uproarious wit.

At once a celebration of female partnership, a bold exploration of queer desire, and a critique of rigid social hierarchies, Boston Marriage delivers a fresh, fiercely entertaining portrait of women and queer lives on the verge of transformation.
